BYOC

Why does BYOC ask me to add parties before fields?

BYOC fields are usually connected to a person: someone must fill a value, sign, initial, or review the assigned area. For that reason, field creation is locked until the agreement has at least one party.

  • Parties first: add each signer or recipient before placing signature and fillable fields.
  • Fields second: once a party exists, add text, date, checkbox, initials, name, and signature fields.
  • Assignment last: review who fills each field before freezing or sending the agreement.

This applies to both BYOC modes: Original PDF overlay and the editable BYOC Editor. Owner-prefilled fields can remain unassigned when they are completed before sending, but recipient fields and signature fields should be assigned to the correct party.

Tip: When the field controls are disabled, open the Parties tab, add at least one party, then return to Fields.
